ORE'S FEATURED GEMSTONE: Prehnite by Stephanie Pflumm This softly translucent pale green crystal hasn't really gotten much credit during the first couple of hundred years that we've been acquainted with her. Initially Prehnite was classified as a Zeolite because it usually forms in the same areas and and under similar conditions. Geologists today place it within the Phyllosilicate category which also includes Apophyllite. Prehnite is a fairly strong crystal, very resistant to pressures and scratching. The crystal is composed of Aluminum, Calcium and Silicon with a few specimens containing small traces of Iron. It is considered a secondary or second stage mineral. This means the crystal did not form during the initial volcanic activity (most Prehnite come from volcanic zones), instead the Prehnite crystals were actually formed by events caused by the volcano, after the fact. Orthorhombic crystals are extremely rare in Prehnite, most grow in boytroidial or stalactite formations. It is found primarily in fissures and cracks of various igneous stones (Granite, Gneiss etc.). Pale green is the most common color for the gemstone, but it also occurs in yellow to brown colors when Iron is involved and some unusual specimens found in Michigan appear to be pink. Crystals of Prehnite found in ancient lava flows on Isle Royale in Lake Superior are the only pink specimens known. The pink color actually comes from fine grains of Copper imbedded in the Prehnite. The more and larger the grains are, the pinker the crystal will be. A Dutch colonel, H. Von Prehn, is credited with discovering Prehnite in 1774 at the Cape of Good Hope in Africa. Early traders nicknamed the gemstone Cape Emerald in hopes of exploiting its green color. Initially Prehnite was rare, South Africa being the only known location for many years. Eventually pockets of the crystal were found throughout the world, including the US, Canada. Austria, Germany, France and India. Prehnite's discovery at a time when utilizing crystals for healing or any type of magical practice was highly discouraged prevented any traditions for this stone from developing. Today many are discovering this gentle green stone spirit has much to offer anyone who is willing to take time to meet her. I highly recommend this gemstone to those working as food servers. It assists you in remembering guests' orders. Plus its ability to awaken your more compassionate and forgiving nature, it helps you to be patient with your more challenging guests. You can also utilize Prehnite's memory capabilities to recall your dreams. Ask your crystal to help you remember, then place it under your pillow before sleeping. Do you use meditation for relaxing? Prehnite crystals can clear the mind of daily clutter allowing both your body and brain to achieve true calm and real relaxation. Prehnite crystals will teach you to let go of old memories that hurt you. If you have been avoiding some painful truth, use this crystal to face, understand and rid yourself of that pain. Your past is a series of events that give you opportunities to learn and grow from, not to carry around as festering wounds that never heal. Just as the future will be a new set of experiences rich with chances to create. This gemstone will help you recognize your true potential within your divine self. It will guide you in fulfilling this potential, even if it is through a mundane life. It eases acceptance of circumstances without allowing for the surrender of your dreams. Healers may use Prehnite's memory skills in aiding with diagnosis of patients. If you have a patient that is particularly difficult to diagnosis, have them carry a Prehnite for 30 days or so. When they return the crystal, use it in meditation to tap the stone's memory. The gem is recommended for cleansing the body of toxins, so it may also have some beneficial effects on organs like your bladder, liver or gall bladder. I would love to hear about any experiences that you have had with Prehnite. No matter how small the chance or how hard you may have to work for it, always have a dream to believe in and, well, dream about. When you are examining life moment by moment, it can be hard to see the magical evolution that is taking place as life progresses. You get so caught up in the day to day minutia that is modern life you forget you are a miracle endowed with the creative powers to manifest any dream you imagine. When you stop dreaming, you stop making magic. The magic of making dreams come true is not easy. You must be diligent, learn your heart to know what your inspiration is. Dedicate energy and time to education. Proper dream building takes knowledge and skills. Practice and failure are essential to success. Dream weaving will tax your stamina, determination and faith. It can also blind you. Be sure to keep your eyes open, so that you recognize when your dream has come true. You can invest so much energy into the workings of dream making that you fail to see when you've accomplished your goal. From my earliest moments there was one thing I wanted most for my life, to not be ordinary, to not fit into any mold. As I entered adulthood and viewed the expanding choices before me (by the time I finished school, many more careers and occupations were open to women than when I had started) I had an interesting list of occupational possibilities: truck driver, accountant, journalist, media, retail, food service and writer were on my short list of want-to-bes. Ultimately I settled on the media, radio to be exact as my occupation of choice. Once I determined where I wanted to go, I had to figure out how to get there. That is one of the challenges with dreams, they do take your involvement to make them happen. Education was my first stop, though I was lucky enough to already have a job in radio when I started my so-called "higher" education. With the proper education in hand, other obstacles to my dream began to assert themselves. Some of them appeared impossible to overcome (gender prejudice for instance), others were mere nuisances along my journey. But I held steady to my dream and ultimately was able to climb to the highest position within the industry, a general manager of a small group of Missouri radio stations. One of the problems with reaching the peak of your dream is that desire and motivation that got you there now needs to be diverted to the next dream. I had no idea what my next dream was. Throughout my entire life I have been writing, mostly journals full of poetry and musings about my journey. Deep inside me has always been the dream to be a writer, though it was not one I nurtured or even gave much energy to, other than for my own enjoyment. When I finally determined what my next dream was going to be, I turned all my energy and focus into making Ozark Rock Exchange happen. As my ideas for the website and product line began to take shape, the woman who was working with me kept pushing me to sign up subscribers. I had no idea at the time that my dream for Ozark Rock Exchange was about to make a deeper, more powerful dream begin to come true for me. Once Ozark Rock Exchange was live and beginning to make its first sales, I began struggling with what I was going to sign up subscribers for. Initially, my dream for Ozark Rock Exchange did not include writing. However, I was deep into learning about gemstones, geology and the history of gemstone magic and ultimately received a powerful "duh". While I'm teaching myself about each gemstone, I could write a "report" and that would be what I sent my subscribers. After that first article was written, a new power and determination took over my dreams for Ozark Rock Exchange. Opening up my website also opened up the opportunity to share the words that seem to constantly pour from my pens. While working to create one dream, I had accidentally allowed another dream to sprout and bloom. Now I don't believe there is anything that can stop me from keeping Ozark Rock Exchange going. Dreams are strong food that our hearts and souls thrive on. Even dreams that seem impossible are important to hold on to. Just because today the children need to be fed and the rent paid, at some other point along your path different opportunities will present themselves. Especially if you are working and co-creating to make things happen. After all, dreams don't come true with the twink of the nose or the wave of a magic wand. Dreams come true because the dreamer refuses to wake up to someone else's reality. Because the dreamer insists on feeding, nurturing and working tirelessly toward manifesting their desires. -+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+-- SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: If I Were The Owner Contest!
