This magical stone is the result of three way merger, Granite (Quartz), Feldspar and Epidote. Deep in the Unaka Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, Peach Feldspar (a sister to Moonstone) formed in Quartz rich Granite while green Epidote precipitated out of nearby magma flows. This marriage of elements gave birth to a beautifully balanced gemstone. Unakite does not crystallize. It is found in masses, much like Chalcedonys are. Some deposits are found in Zimbabwe and Switzerland, but the gemstone is named for it's North American home, the Unaka Mountains. Occasionally the gem is listed as Epidotized Granite or Grandodiorite. Pebbles and boulders of Unakite have been found in Glacial drifts around the Great Lakes, especially near Lake Michigan. I was not successful at uncovering any history on Unakite. It was only discovered in the last century and many of my mineral reference books don't even include information on the gemstone. Given its hardness and abundance in areas inhabited by native cultures I was sure that I could at least find archeological evidence of its use. I can only assume that if the gem was used in ceremony or for utilitarian purposes, it was called by a different name that is lost to most of the literature available today. This lack of historical perspective has not inhibited Unakite's growth as a spiritual and healing tool. You will find the gemstone most beneficial at creating a more spiritual daily life. When you are with your group, meditation circle, coven, in ritual or at church it is not difficult to feel the love of Mother and Father, to feel the power of Spirit within you. It is everyday, at the office, in line at the supermarket, stuck in a traffic jam, arguing with your teens about the party on Saturday night that you can feel unconnected and unloved. Unakite helps you feel Spirit's power, know the Universe's love for you in those mundane moments that seem to do the most damage to our spiritual lives. Carrying the gemstone as a companion stone will help you to maintain a balance between your spiritual and physical lives. Allowing them to join forces in assisting you to create the life you need. Unakite is excellent at removing obstacles to your personal growth. Whether it is an issue from childhood or last month's divorce that is draining your energy and holding you back. This promotes healthier organs, muscles and soft tissue. Unakite is recommended for a safe pregnancy (as is Moonstone) and the healthy growth of the infant while in its mother's womb. The gemstone may also be helpful in achieving targeted weight gain to specific areas of the body. It may appear to be a test, but you will not be graded, judged or classified in any way by this test. The purpose of this "test" is not to measure anything, to assign a point system or even to draw specific conclusions. The purpose of asking you to answer these questions is to guide you towards a path of discovery. The Universe has been providing you with clues and hints about your power sources all of your life. Your answers should begin to illuminate where the Universe has been leading you. There are no answers to provide you for your discovery. Only you have the answers. I will provide something of a guide to help you evaluate your responses, and of course will be available to answer any questions you may have after reading the Discovery. Much like a pregnant woman will crave a certain food that contains nutrients her body needs, our Spiritual Self craves that which will give us power. This is why you begin your discovery in childhood. As a young child you were not influenced by what others thought, current trends or other unhealthy input. Children, are totally self involved, every thought and action revolves around what they need. The choices you made as a child were born of this innocence. You choose to love something simply because it felt good to do so. You picked toys that made you happy, pets that made you laugh, activities that inspired you. It is important that you answer your questions with this same innocence. Adult Questions Have you held onto the things that gave you joy as a child. Or has your adulthood lead you away from your innocent roots? If you are making different choices as an adult, ask yourself if these new choices are better for you. Have you chosen new things because you have truly outgrown the old, or have you cast things aside because you felt you had to? Again, this discovery is to help you to recognize cues and hints that have drifted in and out of your life. It may not provide specific answers today, but certainly should start shedding light on the clues that have been around you all your life. Preferences Do you know what makes you happiest. What colors bring a change in your emotions? Where are you most comfortable? All these discoveries will give you hints about how and where to use your power tools. Are you happiest in a museum? Be sure to surround yourself with beautiful tools. Are you happiest painting, you will probably want to create your own tools. Are you happiest in the park, a simple stick left along your path may prove a most powerful wand for you. Or, are you off to the Mall, you may want to join with a group of like minded friends to bring out the best of your power. The most important thing about your Discovery is learning who you are. Since you are the ultimate source of power for any tool you use, it is the power you need to acquaint yourself with first.
