ORE'S FEATURED GEMSTONE: Tiger Iron by Stephanie Pflumm Tiger Iron is a text book example of a metamorphosed gemstone. Over two billion years ago deposits of red Jasper, Tiger Eye and Hematite were slowly smashed together when tectonic plates shifted to create the Australian continent. Intricate designs are the result of tremendous pressures on the original crystals. Their presence is still very noticeable the layers of gold, silver, brown and red creating unique vertical and horizontal patterns. While the stone is billions of years old, apparently we've only recently become acquainted with it. Searches on the internet, public library and the local university library yielded only scattered scraps of information on the geological background of Tiger Iron. Mineralogy and Geology are not fast moving sciences. Many references and text books were written several decades ago with occasional revisions updating information. This unusual trinity stone carries the energies of it's three parents; Jasper, Tiger Eye and Hematite. Jasper and Tiger Iron are silicates or Quartz crystals. Tiger Iron carries the spiritual powers of Quartz combined with the grounding Earth energies of Hematite, a very strong and powerful tool. Here is a quick review of the spiritual and healing energies for Jasper, Tiger Eye and Hematite. There are links next to each description to the complete articles on these three crystals. Jasper is excellent for both defensive and protective energies, use it to protect yourself from your own dangerous desires. It can defend you from both physical & non-physical threats & give you courage in preparation for a conflict, either physical or mental. Use it to free yourself from self-made constraints or create the energies to turn ideas into reality. Red Jasper is a helpful companion for astral projection, providing a safe journey. Helps you to remember dreams, returns negativity back to the sender. For healing energies, Jasper aids in disorders of internal organs like your kidneys, liver, bladder & stomach. It can help restore a lost sense of smell. You can use this gem to fortify your immune system or assist in healing diseases associated with sex organs. Jasper provides protection from environmental toxins & balances the mineral content in your physical body. Tiger Eye has a wonderful reputation for attracting wealth, money & luck. However it has some powerful spiritual uses as well. The liquid movement of light across the stone makes it an excellent tool for vision or divination work. Using Tiger Eye with your lower Chakras can bring about a balance of energy between mental & physical health. If you constantly worry over your health, this gem can prevent hypochondria and psychosomatic illnesses. Tiger Eye can also bring calm to stressful environments. One of the most common healing traditions associated with Tiger Eye is strengthening eyesight. It can help slow the flow of energy through the body which makes the gem very helpful in stress related illnesses. Tiger Eye may help alleviate pain & can assist in mending broken bones. This crystal helps create a calm environment, allowing you to sort out mental conflicts. It will aid in removing self imposed limits, helping you reach for the sun while staying grounded in your expectations. You can transform harmful energies into helpful ones. Hematite brings about your own inner peace, happiness and self control, allowing you to love others. For students and engineers, it aids in solving mathematical calculations, improves technical knowledge, memory and mental dexterity. Hematite is a great meditation stone for beginners. It will help you achieve a mild meditative state, while allowing you to remain safely grounded, preventing emotional disruption or shock. Many ancient healing traditions for Hematite were originally described using the name Bloodstone. It was used by soldiers to stop the flow of blood from wounds and drawing poisons from the body. You can still use a Hematite to draw fever or other illnesses from the body. Hematite also makes a wonderful elixir. Use it to treat anemia, it will aid the blood in absorbing iron. It can also be useful for treating insomnia, leg cramps and nervous disorders. Chiropractors can use a Hematite to aid in spinal alignments. It may also be helpful in healing broken bones. All of this power is found in the Tiger Iron. No other stone can bring the level of strength and diversity that this morphed crystal can. Unlike most gems or crystals that can become overloaded with too many tasks . . . Tiger Iron can take on almost anything you'd want to request of it. It will provide you with that same sense of endurance and strength of will. Are you a multi-tasker? Then keep a Tiger Iron on your desk. It will help you stay focused on your goal as you dig through the layers of tasks required to get you there. Mediations with Tiger Iron can breathe a new spiritual life into your creative efforts. Assisting you in bringing out the message of Universal Love where everyone can touch it, taste it, feel it, understand it. Use Tiger Iron as an impenetrable shield, protecting you during vision journeys and other trance work where you are vulnerable. The mineral kingdom's mighty trinity; Red Jasper, Tiger Eye and Hematite are joined to create a powerful magical and healing tool. Tiger Iron is a strong crystal ally that will assist in your metamorphoses. How do I use my stones? Fortunately for me, the answer is really simple. However you would like to use them. Working with gemstones and crystals is a very intuitive and personal process. One set of rules could never apply to all the creative possibilities available to us. If you are uncertain as to how to begin or what methods work best for you, experiment, use your imagination, ask others how they have worked successfully with their stones. Here are some ways that I have used crystals: Companion Stone: Carrying a companion stone is very simple. If it is your first one, choose it using your instincts. Do you like the color, or the shape, or does something about the crystal touch you. Don't worry about what the spiritual properties of the stone are suppose to be, look with your heart not your mind. Then carry the stone with you, in a pocket, in a pouch around your neck or tied at the waist. If you are handy with needle and thread, you may even be able to sew a small hidden pouch along the waist band of your clothing. Dreaming Stone: While certain stones allow for prophetic dreams and can allay nightmares, they are not the only stones that are good to sleep with. If you are trying to learn about a stone, I highly recommend taking the gem to bed with you. Knowledge tends to sink in on a very subconscious level. This is also an excellent way to introduce yourself to a new crystal companion, since in your sleep, you are your most vulnerable and honest self. If a stone is to help you manifest change, it needs to know your weaknesses as well as your strengths. Power Pouches or Medicine Bags: Normally I begin by choosing the number of stones to be included. Because I feel closely connected to the elements, most often, I will use four stones. Thereby incorporating Earth, Air, Fire and Water. However, other numbers may vibrate stronger for you, use your imagination and don't be afraid to experiment. Next, decide what energy or outcome you'd like to manifest with your pouch. What are some key elements that will bring about your desired outcome. For instance, in putting together the Abundance Stone Power Prayer Pouch, I knew that Abundance is the result of many things. Being able to think clearly and make appropriate decisions - Fluorite; attracting wealth in the form of money - Tiger Eye; stimulating opportunity and courage - Aventurine and finally to ensure success - Amazonite. It's very easy to expect too much from one crystal. Using a medicine bag allows you to work on a complicated concept by combining critical energies from a variety of sources. Consider adding other materials to your pouch. I have found the new millennium quarters to be quite magical - especially the quarter with the large tree on the back. I have utilized that coin in several abundance and growth workings. Sorry, I don't remember the state it came from. Altar Stones: My personal altar has a variety of stones that I change out as the Wheel turns - though - there are a few that are constants in my life. At least until I'm told to pass them on. Meditation Stone: Any of the Quartz composites also make wonderful meditation tools: Tiger Eye, Agates, Obsidian, Amethyst, Citrine etc. Experiment with a variety of crystals that appeal to you and compare your results. Who worked best? When I meditate with a stone, I normally hold it with both hands. However, some references recommend holding it in your dominant hand to receive (the one your write with). It is suppose to be your receptive hand. Again, experiment with different holding techniques, and trust the answers your receive. Laying On Of Stones: What little information I can confidently share is that placing the recommended stone directly on the affected area works. I have gotten relief from migraines simply by placing an Amethyst (I store it in Lavender) on the area of pain in my forehead. Other subscribers have shared similar results with fevers and other minor complaints, again by simply placing the stone on the area of the body where the illness or pain is located. I would be very interested in hearing how you work with your stones. What successes have you had? What lessons did you learn?
