ORE'S FEATURED GEMSTONE: Rhodocrosite by Stephanie Pflumm I love pink stones. Rhodocrosite is an exquisite example of what Mother Earth gives us in this joyful color. Lacy bands weave around crystals the range from pastel pinks to the blazing pale rose of a fading sunset. This attractive Calcite crystal receives its color from Manganese. The earliest known deposits were found in the ancient Silver mines of the Inca. Over the centuries Manganese and carbonic acids were dissolved by ground water, then precipitated into stalactites and collected in cracks and crevices This patient process creates the intricate lacy designs that distinguishes Rhodocrosite crystals. Miners that brought the luscious pink specimens from the old Inca mines gave the crystal a special name, Inca Rosita. Rhodocrosite first appeared in the 1930s as decorative boxes and vases. Availability was scarce and unreliable until the 1970s when a rich vein of the highest quality crystals were discovered. The mine at N'Chwaning near Cape Province has produced some of the finest Rhodocrosite ever found. Usually the stone is found as a grainy to dense mass or as stalactite. Twelve sided (rhombohedral), prismatic and tabular Rhodocrosite crystals have been found in N'Chwaning. The largest specimen ever found there is an intense rose-red crystal measuring seven centimeters. The gemstone often occurs in ore deposits like Silver, Lead, Zinc and Copper. In addition to the Cape Province and Inca deposits it is also found in the US, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Argentina. Its name comes from two Greek words, rhodon which means pink and chrome for color. I dug and dug, but was unable to find any Incan traditions attached to Rhodocrosite. Of course, I was working under the assumption they would have been the first to utilize this magical crystal. One vague reference hinted that "an ancient people recognized it as a stone of love". Rhodocrosite is a very loving crystal, but I believe that it is also demanding . . . in that it expects you to learn and use its lesson of self-love. It will not compromise with you on the issue of your higher good and sacred self. Therefore, it may be too intense for individuals not ready for this lesson. If you are ready to move past destructive behavior patterns and develop a more balanced lifestyle, Rhodocrosite makes the perfect companion for your journey. The crystal radiates the self confidence you need to face tough decisions and situations you normally would avoid. You'll no longer be able to deny the true source of your life's destiny, your own heart, your own thoughts. Be prepared to make life changing choices filled with joy and hope once you start working with this gemstone. Hectic schedules seem to run smoother when you carry a Rhodocrosite. It will help keep your thoughts organized and your mind stable, while making tasks seem automatic so that you move and react with confidence. Your long term memory will improve, so you always remember what you are suppose to be doing right now. A gemstone will keep stress levels down so you can adjust to sudden changes and challenges. Rhodocrosite works well with the Base, Heart and Crown Chakra. It cleanses and purifies the base and heart, while energizing and opening the Crown. In meditation the stone allows for lessons from past lives to be assimilated into current situations. Without the trauma often associated with remembering the conditions under which those lessons were learned. In other words, you are able to remember the why, but not the how. This helps you move more quickly toward your sacred self. Since it is a Calcite, Rhodocrosite is a very popular healing stone. If you have a long convalesce ahead of your, wear this optimistic pink crystal. Calcite traditionally helps the body remember what it was like to be healthy and return to that state. Rhodocrosite is especially beneficial if you wait to begin using the stone after the initial trauma has passed. It will be a steady, positive friend through the long days of rehabilitation and recovery ahead. The crystal is excellent for internal organs like the kidney, pancreas and spleen. It is believed to make blood vessels more elastic, allowing for better blood flow. This can offer relieve for migraines and some sexual dysfunctions. Rhodocrosite heals on a physical and emotional level. If you, or a friend is healing from injuries sustained during an assault, this stone will promote healing on all levels. Returning the precious gifts of trust and faith to victims. Elixirs are recommended for healing infections of the ears, sinus and some stomach inflammations. Remember to use small drops of an elixir in tea or juice, do not ingest them undiluted. A cloth soaked in an Rhodocrosite elixir may be used as a topical poultice for minor cuts or abrasions. First, there is a new page where you can keep up with the Mobile ORE Store schedule, Party Times, Contests, sales and new arrivals. http://www.ozarkrockexchange.com/event.html I'd sure love your comments and suggestions. I'm building the page myself, so I know I can use input. Remember I'm gone this weekend, but will be working on tweaking the page over the next few weeks. Send your ideas to webmaster@ozarkrockexchange.com In October, ORE FEATURES will be finishing its second year of publication. In these two years I've researched almost 50 gems and crystals. As we dig into the more obscure crystals, information is getting more difficult to uncover and my travel schedule is becoming more demanding. For these reasons, effective with the first issue of volume three (November), ORE FEATURES will be published on a monthly basis. This will allow more time for research, no matter how demanding the Mobile ORE Store schedule is. With that first issue, Ozark Rock Exchange will also be launching the Stone Power Circle, which will be a sort of Crystal of the month club. I am putting the finishing touches on the Circle and will have a special announcement in October when ORE FEATURES celebrates its second anniversary. The Stone Power Circle will be different from your ORE FEATURES subscription. Your subscription to the newsletter will always be FREE . . . at least until someone starts making me pay for email. The next Party Time is September 7. In fact it's such a big party, we have to do it twice! We're celebrating the Kids Are Back In School! Friday September 7 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm EDST and then again 8:00 pm until 10:00 pm EDST. Double prizes, double games, double fun . . . come play all day in the Mythical Stone Party Room! http://themouseconnection.com/room16/default.htm If you are on the Party List, watch for your personal invitation. I'll be sending them out after I return from Tulsa. Don't miss any of the fun, make sure your on the List, send an email to stephanie@ozarkrockexchange.com with Party in the subject. Party announcements are no longer sent to the ORE FEATURES subscription list. (Thanks for putting up with all the extra emails) Finally, Spirit Suites has published two of my works at their website this week. Butterfly Song is at http://www.spiritsuites.com/poetry.htm and Touching Earth can be read at http://www.spiritsuites.com/earthlty.htm They publish a lot of great articles, poetry and alternative spiritual viewpoints. It's worth a moment or two to check out the site. And they obviously choose great writers. Ok, time to fire up Gypsy Wind and blow West. Your comments, ideas, concerns and compliments too are always welcome and most appreciated. stephanie@ozarkrockexchange.com -+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+-- SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR: Fifth Goddess! -+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+-- What's Happening At Ozark Rock Exchange --+--+--+-- MOBILE ORE STORE Schedule *~*^*~^**~ Party Times! ~**^~*^*~* Friday September 7th --+--+--+-- STONE POWER Volume 1 Now Available --+--+--+-- If you have a special announcement for the next issue of ORE FEATURES, please send it to stephanie@ozarkrockexchange.com for considerations. -+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+-- ©Copyright 2001, Stephanie Pflumm, All Rights Reserved Worldwide.
