ORE'S FEATURED GEMSTONE: Celestite
by Stephanie Pflumm

One Easter, my Grandmother gave me a beautiful giant sugar egg. The outside literally danced with decorations, flowers and lines swirling all around. When you peeked inside a small hole on one side, you found a tiny world filled with little Rabbits working on Easter Eggs. I kept that egg until it crumbled, and never lost that moment of awe when I looked inside on that little world.

That moment returned to me dozens of years later when I picked up my first Celestite "egg" and peered inside to a magical world of the most comforting blue crystals I'd ever seen.

Celestite is also known as Celestine. Occasionally the crystal is found in highly compressed masses that resemble Angel wings - these specimens are referred to as Angelite. It is a Strontium Sulfate. In its purest form it is crystal clear. The most well known color is a soft baby blue. The blue may be caused by the natural irradiation of Gold. It is also found in white, gray or a greenish blue color. When Barium is present it will turn brown, orange or yellow.

Strontium is mixed with Nitrate and used in fireworks and tracer bullets. It is also used to refine beet sugar.

Celestite crystals are usually found in areas where limestone and sandstone have begun to break down. Crystals can grow in tabular, thin prismatic (very fragile), nodular, or as a pseudohexagonal formations. More frequently, it is found growing inside a geode.

Calcite, Fluorite, Gypsum, Dolomite, Pyrite and Galena are often found in the same area as Celestite. Madagascar and the US are reputed to have some of the finest deposits. Geodes from Madagascar (some are reportedly fluorescent) are the most sought after in the world.

The US deposits were first discovered in New York, near Niagara County when crews were digging the Erie Canal. Enormous blue crystals have been found on South Bass Island in Lake Erie (Ohio). Michigan, Texas, Colorado and California are other states where Celestite is found. Canada boasts a beautiful orange Celestite from an area called Orangeville, near Toronto.

Mexico, England, Italy, Czech Republic and Poland have also been sources for this crystal.

Color in your crystal can be affected by over exposure to the Sun, so be careful where your store it. It is also very brittle, and rarely is used as a gemstone.

However, it is extremely popular as a tool for communicating with Angelic and other Spirit Guides. It is a crystal that instantly lifts you above the mundane, once it catches your eye.

Meditations with Celestite crystals will open a clear channel of communication allowing you to tap into the perfect power of the Universe's total love for you. This crystal will teach you the peaceful trust in accepting that you are part of the Divine Plan. That the ebb and flow of your life propels you where you need to be.

Learn to step out of cyclical patterns of worry and despair and walk your path in Trust. As your pathway becomes clear of thought debris, Celestite helps you communicate this lesson of Trust and Flow to others.

Use Celestite to remember your dreams. Keep a crystal under your pillow and a dream journal beside your bed. Each night request your crystal's aid while you dream, then write what you remember as soon as you get up in the morning. Dreams are tools your subconscious uses to help your physical and conscious self, heal and evolve. Celestite can speed up this process via lucid dreaming, keeping dream records and as a communication channel between these two realms.

Musicians, artists, craftsman, if you work with your hands, Celestite is great companion stone. It stimulates creativity, especially in endeavors requiring fine details and a delicate touch. This crystal directly affects your Throat Chakra, which is your communication center. If you express yourself through the arts, Celestite helps give voice to that expression.

Astral Travelers can use the crystal to improve accuracy in achieving pre-determined destinations.

Celestite eases stress and is useful in preventing diseases brought on by worry. It has been used to improve eyesight and hearing. You can ease a sore throat by placing the crystal on the afflicted area. It is also believed to aid with the functioning of the Thyroid, relieve digestive problems and eliminate toxins from the body.

SPIRITUAL STONES
by Stephanie Pflumm

Today is the Autumnal Equinox. A day of perfect balance between Light and Dark. For some practices (including me), it is time to turn West, to honor the element of Water and to reflect. Take this time to contemplate your Spiritual Walk. It is part of every step you take, every relation you meet? Or just a quick moment of reflection, an hour of someone else's talk? Do you trust your spiritual gifts? Your guides and intuition?

Here are some gemstones and crystals that can aid you in building and strengthening your Spiritual Foundation. These crystals can help in focusing meditation, improving psychic skills and assist you in communicating with guides and the Universe. Please do not interpret this list as the only stones you can use for these purposes. You may have stones not listed here that have been very beneficial to you. Trust that knowledge.

Quartz Crystal
This is the most recognized stone for meditation or communication with the higher spiritual realms. Quartz crystal is considered a recorder, and each crystal contains all Knowledge, known and unknown. Quartz helps to build and maintain the connection between your physical and mental self, allowing for brilliant clarity in thought, intent and action. If meditations with clear Quartz are too intense, try working with a Milky Quartz. It imparts the same energies, in a calmer fashion. Angelic Guides are very attracted to Milky Quartz, you may find it the perfect tool for communicating with your heavenly guides.

Amethyst
Your Crown Chakra is the center of your highest Spiritual self - it is the Chakra that opens you to the wonders of the Universe and connects you to life's intricate web. Amethyst crystals are highly effective at opening this important Chakra and aiding you in developing psychic and intuitive skills. Sleeping with Amethyst can bring prophetic dreams or protect you from nightmares. This crystal is also known for preventing and reversing harmful thought patterns which are so destructive to your Spirit.

Citrine
This sister to Amethyst is another important Crown Chakra crystal. In addition to opening your top Chakra, Citrine will also impart a joy of life and provide the courage to live fully bringing new energy and fire to your walk. Dreamers are also protected by Citrine. Plus the crystal can provide insight into the reasons why demons haunt your sleep. Recognizing and conquering your self created demons, gives you Spiritual Strength to fight the real threats to our relations.

Ametrine
A crystal siamese twin, combining the energies of Amethyst and Citrine into a single gemstone.

Blue Lace Agate
Since its discovery in the 1960's, this Agate has come to represent World Ecology, World Peace, Truth, Hope and other noble ideals. It is an excellent crystal for communication, aiding in opening and activating your Throat Chakra, the center of communication. As it opens you for receiving knowledge from the universe, it also assists you in understanding what the message means to you. You'll also find it helps you discover the correct words when it is time for you to share your message. Blue Lace Agate can serve as a translator between you and your Spirit Guides.

Lepidolite
A calming stone that can be very beneficial in meditation. If you are easily distracted (and most beginners are), Lepidolite allows for quick and easy access to your subconscious. Helping you block out sounds, lights and movements that might confuse you. This gemstone also activates and opens the Crown Chakra, and can be used to balance and cleanse all of your lower Chakra.

Hawk's Eye
During this crystal's formation, the Iron that makes Tiger's Eye golden, dissolved completely out, leaving the gemstone the original color of the Crocodolite. This dark blue gem activates and opens your Third Eye Chakra, the center of your Intuition. The flash and dance of light across the crystal make it a very useful meditation tool. Use the fluid motion of light along the surface to lead your thoughts away from the mundane into the magic of the Universe.

Lapis Lazuli
Another effective tool for activating your Third Eye Chakra. Lapis allows for the opening of communication between the dimensions, aiding you in seeing the future consequences of present actions. Sleeping with this gemstone helps to clarify the messages your subconscious is trying to communicate via your dreams. If you work with Tarot cards or other divination tools, storing a Lapis Lazuli with them, helps to keep their communications strong and your interpretation correct.

Labradorite
A true Light Crystal. Labradorite literally captures light inside itself; the very structure of the crystal slows and bends the captured light until it escapes as flashes of blue, yellow, green, red and orange. It is also a crystal of balance between Light and Dark, something that is very important to a proper Spiritual Walk. All life is positive and negative. Not good or bad, evil or benevolent. Light and Dark are a critical balance in true Creation. Without night to sleep, rest and refresh, your days would quickly become barren and lifeless. The same is true of your spirituality. If you never took time to cleanse and flush your Spirit (negative), sooner or later you would no longer have room to create and build (positive). Labradorite helps you discover your perfect balance of Light and Dark.
