LOCAL TV STATION BANS AD!

Buying rocks on line is obscene!

Oldfield, MO: Local NBC affiliate KYTV has pulled the television ad for the web site, Ozark Rock Exchange because of complaints that the ad was obscene.

The ad, which was produced at KYTV's production facilities, is a simple fifteen second ad asking viewers to get their rocks off www.ozarkrockexchange.com. Ozark Rock Exchange sells gemstones, crystals, mineral specimens, rocks.

Apparently after the ad ran on KYTV, the station began to receive complaints about the alleged sexual content of the ad, even though the ad only shows pictures of rocks and contains nothing about sex at all.

Stephanie Pflumm, owner of Ozark Rock Exchange says she was contacted by her advertising agency late on the afternoon of March 14, the day after the ad had started airing. At that time the agency explained that KY 3 had pulled the ad, but upon a management review had decided there was nothing obscene or offensive and were going to complete the schedule as originally contracted.

Monday, March 18, 2002 when the ads began running again, the phones began ringing again. At that time KYTV’s manager, Mike Scott, bowed to the puritanical pressure and pulled the Ozark Rock Exchange ads permanently.

Pflumm says: “I am astounded at the series of events that have taken place. The content of my ad is perfectly harmless, there is far more sexually charged material being broadcast than what's in this tiny 15 second ad! I intend to file a complaint with the FCC and pursue the possible violation of my first amendment rights.”
